Accepted Materials

Ferrous Metals

Clean steel around ¼” thickness. If you bring in uncut steel, it needs to have any tires, hoses, plastics and all material considered shred and/or non-ferrous materials before it crosses the scales.

Material is 3’ x 18” size or less and ¼” thickness. Minor variations are acceptable (ex: a piece or two that is slightly larger or thinner will be acceptable). No materials that exceed 5’ in length are accepted. 

#2 Loads can’t include the following: shocks, struts, pinched pipe, electric motors, any non-ferrous materials, hydraulic cylinders, oil filters, aerosol cans, or hoses.

Material must be clean – if it contains anything considered as shred, the entire load will only be accepted as shred material. We do not sort on-site. If you want to correct it, it needs to be done off Grandinetti property.

We accept #1 Auto Cast Iron which includes: 

  • Brake drums
  • Auto rotors
  • Heads (no spark plugs)
  • Engines (no crankshafts, camshaft, and pistons in blocks)
  • Engines that are 350 Chevy or smaller – larger engines can’t be accepted as additional processing is necessary.
  • Manifolds

Cast loads can’t include: 

  • Wheel bearing
  • Exhaust manifolds with shrouds
  • Spark plugs or injectors
  • Crankshafts
  • Camshafts
  • Pistons
  • Bolts (minor amounts are acceptable)
  • Cylinder Sleeves

Non-Ferrous Metals

We accept:

  • Auto Batteries – No Power Tool Batteries
  • Industrial Batteries – Steel Casings, Forklift batteries
  • Soft Lead

Aluminum Copper Radiators -CLEAN:

  • Must not have steel ends
  • A Frame Radiators will be sold as shred

Aluminum Copper Radiators – DIRTY:

  • A Coils not accepted
  • Can have steel ends only – everything else must be removed

AUTO WHEELS:

  • No Valve Stems
  • No Wheel Weights
  • No Center Caps

Clean Aluminum:

  • No steel
  •  No Dirt or debris
  • Can be painted

Dirty Aluminum:

  • Must be at least 55% aluminum end weight
  • Engine – block must be aluminum

Bare Bright:

  • Has a bright and shiny surface
  • Diameter is 12 gauge or pencil sized individual strands
  • No Pipe

#1 Copper:

  • Diameter is 12 gauge or pencil sized individual strands
  • Copper Pipe without corrosion, paint, or solder
  • No Calcium in pipe
  • Insulation must be stripped or burnt

#2 Copper:

  • Some corrosion acceptable
  • Can have solder
  • No Plastic coating on wire
  • Stranded Wire
  • Mixed
  • Any gauge wire, pipe with solder joints
  • No Brass fittings
  • Some paint allowed

Sheet Copper:

  • Lower in value than #2 because corrosion area is larger

#1 Insulated Wire:

  • Copper recovery on wire needs to be at least 70%

#2 Insulated Wire:

  • Copper recovery on wire needs to be at least 50%

Electric Motors

  • Motors with copper windings
  • Gearbox and pumps must be removed
  • No power tools

B/C Radiator – Clean:

  • No steel tanks
  • Transmissions and coolers need to be removed
  • No magnetized areas
  • No cast iron tanks

Brass:

  • Can have copper pipe still in valve ends
  • No stainless steel can be present

Dirty Brass:

  • Must be at least 70% brass weight (ex: handle on ball valve)

Heater Core:

  • No steel on unit

Miscellaneous

Shred material must be at least 65% steel.

Cars can have a maximum of five tires per vehicle. We will not accept individual tires even with the wheels – no tires not associated with a vehicle will be taken for free.

Exceptions and limitations:

  • No campers – May be dropped off for disposal, but no payment for this item.
  • No complete trailer homes accepted (contain excessive weight that is non-metallic)
  • Motor homes can be accepted, but will only pay ½ the current board price.
  • Straight trucks, busses, and grain trucks will only be accepted as shred unless prior arrangement was made with management
  • No Water softeners
  • No Safes
  • No Televisions
  • Water heaters should be pinched

No converters shall be purchased while still on a vehicle. Converters must be brought in for purchase with proof of origin and seller’s ID per Iowa State Law.

When purchasing fuel barrels, grain or bulk bins, make sure they are open to determine if fluids or foreign materials are still inside.

Propane/High Pressure tanks need to have their own designated area.  DO NOT put these items in with other materials.  They should only be opened with machinery with a 4” Hole.
